Studying with Music
By Chaz W
What’s your favorite type of music? What kind of music helps you focus? Does music help you study?
Studies have shown that the right kind of music can help you relax your mind, which helps you to concentrate better. But another study shows, if you are studying for a test, putting background music on can cause the brain to just listen to music and not study.
Also, different types of music help and don’t help. People say that music only helps when it’s relaxing, but for me and others all music helps. Some students can study effectively with music playing, while others are distracted by any outside stimulus.
I asked a student of Binghamton High School what her favorite music was she said alternative rock. She listens to music when studying and thinks it helps her study. Another student of BHS also says all music helps him study better. “I like all types of music except for rap, because I can’t understand it so it doesn’t mean anything,” he said.
For me, all music helps me study. It helps me because I like how it sounds. Music does help me study sometimes because of how it makes me feel happy and excited.
Music helps me study sometime but not all the time. It mostly helps out teens and young adults so, as you can see music helps many people study.
